Starbucks in Chile
Agustinas Bandera, Santiago, Chile
OPENED: Aug 2007, PHOTO: 9/12/2009 This store, the first I visited in Chile, also happens to be the largest (unless you count Isidora's patio) with *three* stories.

OPENED: ???, PHOTO: 9/13/2009 On top of its pretty exterior, this store, built in an old house, has a rather homey feel. Talk the wooden staircase to the second floor and you will feel like you are back at grandma's house.

OPENED: May 2004, PHOTO: 9/14/2009 Though closed on the weekend, come Monday morning this store becomes a haven for businesspeople--there must have been at least half a dozen meetings underway when I visited.

Callao-Sanchez Fontecilla, Santiago, Chile
OPENED: Jun 2008, PHOTO: 9/12/2009 This store, built in an old home, offers the customer a quiet patio in back where one can escape some of the street noises and listen to the birds sing (Winter loves him some bird noises).

OPENED: Jul 2008, PHOTO: 9/12/2009 This store is unusual because it has a second floor that is discontiguous with the first--you must go outside to find the staircase leading upstairs.

La Reina, Santiago, Chile
OPENED: 6/6/2008, PHOTO: 9/15/2009 I would not say that this store, whose name means "The Queen", is as large as a castle, but it is certainly one of the largest in Chile, offering the customer plenty of seating choices indoors, upstairs, and also both indoor and outdoor patios.

Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago, Chile
OPENED: 11/5/2007, PHOTO: 9/12/2009 Hmm... can I say this store has three floors? Well, not really, because the "second" floor is just really a half-story up, and it is not really a whole floor. It's more like the ground floor is split-level.

Plaza Vespucio, Santiago, Chile
OPENED: 2004, PHOTO: 9/15/2009 Of the first 31 stores in Chile, this might be the worst, from the perspective of not getting caught by security for attempting to photograph it. The guard standing on a platform outside the store this particular day did not say anything, but my visit could just as easily have turned into a difficult experience.

OPENED: 10/3/2004, PHOTO: 9/13/2009 Excluding the mall stores, this is the most American of the stores I saw in Chile, especially because of its sharing of the building with the gas station, something I have rarely seen outside of North America.

San Martin, Vina del Mar, Chile
OPENED: ???, PHOTO: 9/16/2009 This store, the first outside of Santiago and built in a former house, preserves a bit of a homey feel and sports a decor a cut above that of your usual Starbucks. The store has a second story, of course, and a marbled stone staircase that adds an unusual touch. Also made of stone are the smaller tables. Upstairs there is an outdoor terrace, perhaps one of the few places in a Starbucks anywhere where you will find smoking (though I'm not sure it was technically allowed). Regrettably, the store is too far from the beach, about a quarter mile, to offer a seaside view. homey, two story, stone tables, stone steps
