This is the first official Starbucks in The Netherlands, and I WAS THE FIRST CUSTOMER. But enuf about me… this store, in a popular entertainment district, uses a new design concept including different styles of furniture. Pay attention to the back wall, with its subtle coffee-themed mural.

OPENED: 6/21/2019, PHOTO: 9/18/2023

This is the first store that new partner Alsea opened in Amsterdam. This Starbucks boasts a lovely decor, and as befits this busy area, the space is large inside, and the patio is the largest in The Netherlands.

Oh, where to begin. This store is spectacular in so many ways, you would need an hour or more to take it all in, and even then you'd miss something. I've provided a goodly number of photos, but I'd need a lot more time to capture everything that is noteworthy about this store, perhaps my third favorite in the world.

Licensed Stores
My Starbucking rule regarding store ownership are complicated and will be explained fully in my as-yet-unpublished book, but here are the basics. If Starbucks has a proper company in a country, such as Starbucks United States or Starbucks United Kingdom, then I only count stores operated, in whole or in part (sometimes there are partnerships) by Starbucks. In these countries, stores operated under license by other companies do not count. In most countries, however, Starbucks operates stores in a joint venture with another company (such as Tata in India) or licenses the brand to a primary (exclusive or semi-exclusive) partner, such as Alsea in Latin America and western Europe or Al-Shaya in the Middle East). In such cases I visit stores operated by those primary licensees, but not stores licensed to secondary licensees such as SSP or HMSHost. Additionally, in the U.K. and France, Starbucks franchises to a small set of companies, and I do not count those stores. Finally, note that some stores listed below might have closed down.
